Job summary

AtriusHealth, part of the Optum family, seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient flow, rooming, vitals, and basic testing in a fast-paced clinical environment in Somerville, MA.

Responsibilities include assisting clinicians, updating EMR with current information, and managing patient communication. Preferred candidates hold an Associate degree in medical assisting and EMR experience; ACLS/BLS may be required depending on department needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification.
• Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program (preferred).
• ACLS may be required based on specialty; BLS within 30 days of hire.
• Experience typically acquired through a minimum of one-year in a clinical or customer service setting; EMR experience preferred.
• Knowledge of reagent stability and storage; understanding testing procedures and factors influencing results.

Responsibilities

• Provide efficient flow of patients to optimize appointment availability.
• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms per policy and procedures.
• Prepare patient for examination; measure vitals (BP, pulse, weight, height).
• Assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests; advise on prep.
• Ensure EMR is updated with medical info and demographics.
• Keep patients informed of visit status and delays.
• Reconcile medications and set up pending refills; discontinue inactive prescriptions.
• Address minor patient concerns and complaints as appropriate.
• Order and perform point-of-care testing (waived) such as strep, urine, hCG, and glucose.
