Job summary

Optum invites applications for a Medical Assistant in Somerville, MA, a key member of Atrius Health. You will provide direct clinical support to clinicians, assist with exams, document vital signs, and help maintain smooth patient flow in a busy multi‑specialty clinic.

The role requires a high school diploma or MA certification, with preferred associates degree and BLS/ACLS where applicable. Shifts include 8:00 AM–8:00 PM with rotating weekends, offering growth opportunities within the Optum

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency certificate or MA Certification.
• Associate degree in Medical Assisting or MA program graduation preferred.
• ACLS certification preferred where required by specialty.
• AHA BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• 1+ year clinical or customer service experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills and EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms and support efficient patient flow.
• Obtain and document vital signs (BP, pulse, height, weight).
• Assist clinicians with routine procedures and testing.
• Update patient information in EMR (medications, allergies, history).
• Perform waived point‑of‑care testing (strep, urine, HCG, glucose).
• Communicate visit updates and address routine questions.
