Job summary

Jacobs in Boston is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern/Co-op to support concrete, steel, and timber design at waterfronts. You will assist in structural calculations, drawings, and specifications while gaining exposure to port facilities and coastal projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited university or college.
• Developing knowledge of concrete, steel and timber design codes as well as ASCE7.
• Exposure to engineering programs including AutoCAD, Revit, Risa or STAAD, and MathCAD.
• Ability to work well in a group or team atmosphere; willing to ask questions and present thoughts or solutions during tasks.
• Previous internship experience with exposure to construction drawings and the overall design process.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, whether through large group projects or collegiate extracurriculars and student groups.
• Excellent writing and communication skills (samples of writing to be provided by applicants).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of structural calculations and develop contract drawings and specifications.
• Support construction administration during project delivery.
• Contribute to design work for piers, wharves, seawalls, and flood infrastructure.
• Interface with senior engineers to learn planning and design of port facilities and urban waterfronts.
