Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking a Water Preconstruction Director to lead all preconstruction efforts on large water and wastewater projects.

This role drives pursuit strategy, client engagement, and collaborative delivery, overseeing schedule, design development, and cost estimating from conceptual to GMP. You will mentor preconstruction staff, maintain strong owner and partner relationships, and ensure budget control while aligning with contractual requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, and/or minimum 10 years of applicable estimating, design management and/or field management experience.
• Proven experience managing preconstruction for large scale projects ($100M+) with emphasis on highly complex projects.
• In-depth knowledge of water/wastewater construction principles/practices.
• Experience leading successful teams and maintaining relationships with owners, design teams, trade partners and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction efforts on large water and wastewater projects from pursuit through handoff to construction.
• Drive pursuit strategy, client-facing activities, and collaborative delivery (CMAR and Progressive Design-Build).
• Develop cost estimates at all design milestones and manage budget controls.
• Mentor preconstruction staff and build relationships with owners and key stakeholders.
