McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Manager in our Water Preconstruction/Estimating department.

The role focuses on estimating principles, serving as primary contact to Owner and design teams on projects, and supporting the Preconstruction Director on complex pursuits. Responsibilities include leading bid processes, managing budgets, coordinating schedules, and guiding project staff while ensuring safety and compliance across preconstruction activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CM, Architecture or Engineering, and at least 5 years of estimating/design management or field management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of construction principles and practices.
• Experience on municipal/industrial water and wastewater projects.
• Experience with alternative delivery projects, including cost modeling and GMPs.
• Experience estimating self-perform disciplines and labor/material pricing.
• Proven experience managing preconstruction for diverse projects.
• Strong leadership and communication across owners, subcontractors and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Participate in interviews and interview prep for negotiated bids, acting as Bid Captain.
• Build and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, internal clients and other key stakeholders.
• Track and manage project budget.
• Prepare qualifications for project that align with contractual obligations and submit contract documents for legal review.
• Implement and oversee preconstruction and construction schedule.
• Assist in training and development of project staff, and manage risk by implementing safety and EEO/Affirmative Action programs.
• Manage and maintain all documentation/deliverables, presenting them to project owner in an organized manner.
• Represent McCarthy at design and coordination meetings, providing alternative solutions and assisting in design decisions.
• Participate in the prequalification process, in preparing responses to RFPs/RFQs, in managing the buyout log and chart of accounts.
