Tlingit Haida Tribal Business Corporation (THTBC) is hiring a Water/Wastewater Operator I at NAS Whidbey, WA. The role focuses on operating a water/wastewater treatment plant, managing chemical dosing, SCADA/HMI systems, and routine maintenance to ensure safe, compliant water quality for community needs.

You will work with a team to monitor processes, perform testing with lab equipment, and maintain logs while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Must possess current Certification of Operators of Wastewater Treatment Plants per WAC 173-230.
• Per WAC 246-292, must possess current Waterworks Operator Certification-WWTPO OIT or 1 and/or WDM OIT or 1 with ability to achieve certification in both disciplines within one year.
• Backflow Testing Certification and Backflow Specialty Plumbers License preferred.
• Additional licensure/certifications as required by the position, state, or contract.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control treatment plant equipment to purify and clarify water for human or industrial use.
• Regulate flow of raw water and dosage of treatment chemicals using electric motors, valves, and automated systems (SCADA/HMI).
• Monitor filtration and chemical mixing processes, adjust flow rates and pressure, and ensure proper water distribution.
• Perform backwashing, equipment cleaning, and routine maintenance using hand and power tools.
• Test water samples for acidity, turbidity, and chemical content using lab instruments.
• Record operational data and chemical levels; may operate portable water-purification systems.
• Operate and monitor sewage treatment and sludge processing equipment to manage flow and treatment of wastewater.
• Perform preventative, operational, and corrective maintenance; adhere to safety regulations.
