Job Summary

You’ll operate and maintain a wastewater treatment plant through preventive maintenance, sampling, laboratory testing, process-control adjustments, and corrective action. You’ll diagnose operating problems, determine chemical flow rates, prepare reports, and maintain shift logs. You’ll work with the plant operations team to support safe, reliable treatment operations. PAY: $25.00/hr - $28.00/hr DOE LOCATION: Walla Walla, WA WORK TYPE: Onsite SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Job Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a wastewater treatment plant.
• Perform preventive maintenance and establish and maintain effective sampling procedures for plant operations and effluent.
• Diagnose operating problems, make process-control adjustments, and direct and perform necessary corrective action.
• Collect samples, perform laboratory testing, determine proper chemical flow rates, prepare reports, and maintain shift logs.
• Provide effective solutions to operating challenges and take action to support the safety, health, and well-being of yourself and your team.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• Hold an active State of Washington Level I Wastewater Operator License or be able to gain reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
• Experience with sound safety principles and practices.
• Experience with computer operations, including preparing spreadsheets and word-processing documents and entering information into a maintenance-management system.
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) to aid in biosolid application.
• Experience operating in water/wastewater treatment and proficiency with SCADA systems and software.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools used in the general operation of engines, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; biological and chemical sewage analyses; industrial waste effects and problems in water/wastewater treatment processes; and principles of supervision.
• Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems, plus the ability to operate plant PLCs and SCADA systems.

Work Environment

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires passing Fitness for Duty testing to confirm physical and functional fitness for the essential work functions. Work may be indoors or outdoors around loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The work may require standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, agility, stooping, kneeling, squatting, grasping, reaching, repetitive hand movements, dexterity, grip strength, climbing, and cardiorespiratory exertion. Appropriate safety equipment is mandatory in hazardous areas.
