Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem is seeking a semiskilled worker to install and maintain water and sewer lines under the supervision of the Senior Crew Coordinator. The role involves repairing lines, locating underground utilities, and ensuring safe work spaces.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and some maintenance experience. A valid driver's license and willingness to work on-call and seasonal shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in maintenance of water and sewer systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of department specific software; ability to use various measuring devices; ability to perform manual labor; ability to work in various weather situations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Installs and repairs water and sewer lines and other water/sewer system appurtenances.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair work on water and sewer lines; locates underground utilities prior to repairs.
• Ensures tools and equipment are well maintained and operable; ensures work spaces are safe.
• Completes pre-trip inspection of vehicles and equipment.
