Job summary

Lancaster County Water and Sewer District seeks a dedicated Utility Worker to help maintain, repair, and install water and sewer lines, pipes, valves, and service lines under general supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license (Class A preferred), physical ability to lift 40 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally, and willingness to work outdoors and on an on-call schedule. Hours are 8am-5pm, with bi-weekly pay and potential after-hours work.

Qualifications

• Know-how in utility construction and maintenance work.
• Familiar with common hand tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction.
• Aware of hazards and safety precautions on construction sites.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
• Good communication with crews and others as needed.
• Capable of reading safety manuals, signs and maps.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor to maintain, repair, and install water and sewer lines, pipes and valves.
• Transports equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites.
• Identifies underground utilities and communicates location with crew.
• Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment.
• Loads/unloads materials using a forklift.
• Sets up cones and flags traffic to ensure safety and workflow.
• Ensures tools and parts are stocked on truck and prepped for job sites.
• Assists with work orders and related tasks.
• On-call after hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Interacts with customers, contractors and the public as needed.
