Job summary

City of Winston-Salem seeks an intermediate skilled trades worker to assist mechanics in maintaining water treatment operations, under the supervision of the Senior Utilities Plant Operator. You will support routine operation and maintenance, monitor equipment, and help ensure safe, efficient plant performance.

Responsibilities include plant tours, reading meters, conducting basic lab tests, reporting defects, and stepping in for the senior operator as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with minimal experience.
• Must pass a validated math skills test (minimum 70%).
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assists senior plant operator with routine technical and skilled work in operation and maintenance of water treatment plant and equipment.
• Makes regular plant tours to check engines, generators, pumps, tanks, filters and other equipment.
• Records readings from meters and instruments; performs specific laboratory tests.
• Reports defects to maintenance personnel.
• Substitutes for senior operator in absence.
• Monitors water plant operations and distribution via SCADA; adjusts chemical dosages as directed by senior operator.
