Job summary

The City of Washington in North Carolina seeks a maintenance worker to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair of water and sewer lines and to locate utilities for the Water and Sewer Division. You will operate light equipment, assist with taps, hydrants and meter changes, and help with grounds maintenance around utility facilities.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and 1–4 years of construction or maintenance experience; a valid NC driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; and one to four years' general construction or maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work.
• Awareness of municipal maintenance practices and safety precautions.

Responsibilities

• Performs unskilled and semi-skilled trades work in construction, replacement and repair of water and sewer lines.
• Maintains hydrants and assists in meter changes.
• Performs utility locates, reads maps and completes locate orders.
• Cleans stopped sewer lines and assists with traffic control.
• Operates light construction equipment and back fills trenches.
• Performs and assists with taps, hydrants and water meter work.
• Records work activities and ensures safety compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
