MHS is seeking a year-round part-time Water Safety Instructor (WSI) to work at MHS’s 3 indoor pools and the outdoor aquatic center. The K-12 Aquatics Water Safety Instructor (WSI) helps students in grades PK–12 develop swimming and water safety skills before graduation. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the WSI plans and delivers instruction, supports PE classes under the direction of PE teachers, monitors pool areas, addresses safety concerns, and enforces all pool rules and operating standards.
This is year-round, part-time position with an hourly rate of $23.25. Part-time employees are eligible for a retirement savings plan, an employee assistance program (EAP), free lunches when on duty, and Hershey area discounts.
School-Year PE Class Support: Instruction under the supervision of PE teacher, lessons can be scheduled anytime Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–3:00 pm, based on availability and school need.
Summer Swim Lessons: Student lessons run Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am–12:00 pm, for six consecutive weeks from mid-June through early August.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Previous experience providing swimming or water safety instruction.
Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or ability to obtain it within three months of hire.
Current First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification.
Ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with students and adults from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated professionalism, attentiveness, instructional proficiency, active supervision, customer service, and leadership.
Demonstrated integrity and ability to serve as a positive role model for students.
