Job summary

GEI Consultants in Oakland, CA is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to join our water resources practice and lead technical work across Northern California and nationwide.

You will steer planning, design, and construction efforts for dams, levees, pipelines, and conveyance systems, while mentoring staff and coordinating with clients and senior engineers. The role involves travel and building toward project management responsibilities.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California, or ability to obtain CA PE within a defined timeframe.
• Typically 5–8 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
• Experience in planning, analysis, design, and/or construction of water resources facilities or heavy civil infrastructure.
• Ability to independently formulate and execute technical assignments with limited oversight.
• Experience leading technical tasks, managing scope, schedule, and budget, and mentoring junior staff.
• Ability to review technical work and produce high-quality calculations, drawings, and reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Task Manager and technical lead for engineering tasks and project elements.
• Perform and lead analyses, calculations, 3D modeling, and design for dams, spillways, levees, and related water infrastructure.
• Develop engineering solutions from planning through final design and construction.
• Prepare memos, reports, calculations, drawings, specs, estimates, and schedules.
• Provide technical direction and QA/QC review of deliverables.
• Coordinate subtasks and mentor junior staff.
• Communicate project status and needs to Project Managers and senior staff.
• Coordinate engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D; review design documents.
