Job summary

McFarland Johnson is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join the Northeast Water Resources Group in New York or New England offices. Hybrid work arrangements will be considered.

You will perform hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations, develop 1-D/2-D models, and communicate findings to teams and clients, supporting planning, permitting, and construction delivery on diverse water resources projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• 3–7 years of water resources experience preferred.
• EIT/FE certification required.
• PE license or ability to obtain within two years preferred.
• Strong hydraulic modeling, stream restoration and fluvial geomorphology experience.
• Knowledge of FEMA floodplain management requirements preferred.
• Familiarity with FEMA floodplain mapping and model development.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience with HEC-RAS (1D/2D), SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, HY-8, HydroCAD.
• Working knowledge of ArcGIS and GIS-based analysis.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D andBentley OpenRoads preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations for transportation, aviation, municipal, land development, and ecological restoration projects.
• Develop 1-D and 2-D hydraulic models with team guidance.
• Communicate results to project teams and clients.
• Apply FHWA HECs to calculate scour and suggest countermeasures.
• Conduct field investigations as needed.
• Support planning, design, permitting and construction delivery of water resources projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation, environmental, and municipal groups.
• Participate in client meetings and agency coordination.
• Prepare reports, memos, permits, and construction documents.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to practice improvements.
