Job summary

McFarland Johnson is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Northeast team. You will perform hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations for transportation, municipal, and environmental projects, developing 1-D and 2-D models and communicating results to project teams and clients.

As a 100% employee-owned firm with a collaborative culture, you’ll support planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase delivery, mentor junior staff, and contribute to growing MJ’s water resources practice

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• 3 to 7 years of water resources experience preferred; exceptional candidates may have more.
• EIT/FE certification required.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain within two years.
• Strong hydraulic modeling and floodplain knowledge.
• Experience with FEMA floodplain mapping and modeling.
• Proficient in ArcGIS and GIS analyses; knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations for transportation, municipal, and environmental projects.
• Develop 1-D and 2-D hydraulic models with team guidance.
• Communicate results to project teams and clients.
• Apply FHWA Hydraulic Engineering Circulars to assess scour and recommendations.
• Conduct field investigations and monitoring as needed.
• Support planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase delivery of water resources projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation, environmental, and municipal projects.
• Prepare engineering reports, memoranda, permit applications, and construction documents.
• Mentor junior staff; manage tasks, budgets, and schedules.
