Job summary

RTI International is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support hydrology, flood risk, and integrated water resources planning across US-based projects. You will develop models, analyze data, and build tools to help clients assess hazards and guide decisions.

The role requires advanced degrees or experience in water resources, with programming skills and the ability to communicate complex methods to diverse audiences. Remote work within the United States is supported.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge in water resources engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, and river-basin planning.
  • Experience applying quantitative methods to water resources problems including flood risk and reservoir modeling.
  • Ability to collect, quality-check, analyze, interpret, and document water resources data.
  • Experience with programming or scripting in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Ability to communicate methods, assumptions, and results to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and developers to implement RTI’s hydrologic and flood-risk tools.
  • Develop and calibrate hydrologic/hydraulic models for flood risk and water resources planning.
  • Create reproducible workflows and data visualization to support decision analysis.
  • Evaluate alternatives under historical and future hydrologic conditions.
  • Prepare technical documentation and communicate results clearly.
  • Lead small projects or workstreams with defined scope and timelines.
  • Support proposals with technical approaches and staffing plans.
  • Share methods and findings through internal and external presentations.
