Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Intern in San Diego to learn and contribute on municipal and industrial water infrastructure projects. You will gain hands-on experience with instrumentation, control systems, and automation, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient facilities.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on projects including water treatment, pump stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in an engineering discipline and returning to school after the internship.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development and modification of P&IDs.
• Support the specification and selection of process instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, and field devices.
• Gain exposure to PLC- and SCADA-based control systems used in water and wastewater facilities.
• Assist with control system architecture and industrial communication network designs.
• Support the preparation of engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineering teams.
• Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and field investigations.
• Assist with construction support, commissioning, and startup activities as needed.
