Job summary

The City of Wasilla, AK is seeking a skilled Utilities Operator to operate and maintain wastewater collection and treatment systems, with a secondary role in water treatment and distribution. You will follow the operations manual, ensure safe, reliable facilities, and perform regular rounds, sampling, and recordkeeping.

Requirements include Alaska Level I certifications, CDL with Tanker endorsement within 6 months, and progression to higher licenses within three years.

Qualifications

• Must possess State of Alaska Level I certification in wastewater collection and wastewater treatment.
• Must obtain provisional water treatment and water distribution certifications within 1 year from date of hire.
• Must convert water provisional certifications to a level I and wastewater certificates to a level II within 3 years from date of hire.
• Must possess a valid State of Alaska CDL Class A or B with Tanker endorsement within 6 months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate wastewater treatment facilities and related equipment per operations manual.
• Maintain wastewater treatment plant; adjust aeration blowers; troubleshoot pumps and controls.
• Perform monthly wastewater sampling; maintain chain of custody and logs.
• Operate wastewater collection facilities, lift stations, and service connections.
• Maintain wastewater collections system; inspect for leaks and repair pumps and controls.
• Operate water production and distribution facilities; manage well production and connections.
• Locate service utility lines using as-built drawings and electronic locating tools.
• Establish new sewer service connections and operate live tap and fusion equipment.
• Respond to utility call-outs within 20 minutes; troubleshoot and restore service.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
