Job summary

The City of Austin seeks an ARR Operator Trainee to operate vehicles and perform general labor in trash and recycling collection, disposal, and processing. This is a physically demanding role requiring outdoor work in varying weather.

Under close supervision, you will pre-trip vehicles, follow routes, engage with residents, and assist with cleaning up sites and events. CDL Class B is required to qualify for this position at ARR.

Qualifications

• One year of general labor experience.
• Current Commercial Driver License Class B required.
• Ability to read and follow maps and directions.

Responsibilities

• Picks up, processes, or disposes of trash, recyclables, bulky items, or compostable items.
• Pre-trips vehicles and heavy equipment and maintains records.
• Learns and follows routes using maps to locate destinations.
• Operates rear-loading refuse trucks and related equipment as needed.
• Performs basic vehicle inspections and maintains vehicle records.
• Assists customers and provides information about work being performed.
