Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a dedicated waste collection helper to support daily routes in Jacksonville, NC. You will collect solid waste and recyclables, operate basic truck equipment, and assist drivers while following strict safety guidelines.

Applicants should be able to lift up to 65 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather, and communicate effectively with the team. This full-time role offers benefits and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training desired but not required.
• Valid driver’s license preferred but not required.
• Must meet safety-sensitive criteria per company standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect solid waste/recyclables from customer premises or curbside.
• Load waste into rear or side of collection vehicle.
• Sort recyclables and deposit materials into appropriate compartments.
• Assist driver in safe operation and in maneuvering in tight spaces.
• Operate equipment to compact trash/materials in the vehicle.
• Audit vehicle equipment prior to leaving the branch.
• Report customer-related problems to the driver immediately.
• Identify prohibited waste items and remove them from carts or cans.
• Follow safety checks and comply with all safety regulations.
