Job summary

GFL Environmental in Jacksonville, NC is seeking a Residential Commercial Driver (CDL) for local routes. You will operate residential collection vehicles and service neighborhoods with a focus on safety and community impact.

This role offers daytime hours and the chance to be home nightly. You will drive in a local area with modern equipment, follow daily route sheets, and work with helpers and supervisors to ensure timely, safe service.

Qualifications

• Class A/B CDL with clean driving record.
• 1+ year of commercial driving experience OR CDL certificate from a CDL school.
• Physical readiness to maneuver in/out of cab and in outdoor conditions.
• Strong safety mindset with adherence to traffic laws and company procedures.
• Professional customer service attitude when interacting with residents.

Responsibilities

• Operate residential collection vehicles on local routes (side-loaders, rear-loaders, automated trucks).
• Collect solid waste, recyclables, and yard waste per daily route sheets.
• Provide courteous, professional service and uphold route quality standards.
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections for safety.
• Coordinate with helpers, mechanics, and supervisors to keep routes on schedule.

What You'll Do

• Master Neighborhood Routes: Safely operate residential collection vehicles (side-loaders, rear-loaders, and automated trucks) to service neighborhoods across Newport.
• Keep Communities Green: Efficiently collect solid waste, recyclables, and yard waste according to daily route sheets.
• Be the Face of GFL: Provide courteous, professional service to residents and uphold route quality standards.
• Prioritize Safety: Perform required daily pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure your vehicle is safe and road-ready.
• Work as a Team: Coordinate closely with helpers, mechanics, and supervisors to keep your route running smoothly and safely.

What We're Looking For

• Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
• Experience: 1+ years of commercial driving experience OR a certificate from an accredited CDL school.
• Physical Readiness: Ability to maneuver in and out of the cab, handle outdoor conditions, and manage physical aspects of residential collection.
• Safety First Mindset: Strong commitment to local traffic laws, company safety procedures, and defensive driving.
• Customer Service Attitude: Professional demeanor with a positive, helpful attitude when interacting with local residents.

Primary Location: Jacksonville, NC (Local residential routes, full-time hours, daytime schedule)
