Job summary

Sompo in the United States is seeking a VP, Underwriting Support Manager to lead the North America Property Team. You will manage a team of underwriting support staff, establish effective workflows, and partner with underwriting, CAT, claims and other groups to drive performance.

This senior role requires 10+ years of managerial experience, a Bachelor’s degree preference, and strong leadership, problem solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of managerial experience with similar duties.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Strong leadership, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Extensive experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter.
• Technical capabilities such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
• Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of people managers and underwriting associates including hiring, training, mentoring, and managing performance.
• Establish workflows to reduce or eliminate manual processes and gain efficiencies.
• Collaborate with underwriting managers to ensure underwriting teams provide effective support and address opportunities for improvement.
• Manage processes for internal and external audits.
• Manage monthly premium bookings and overdue premium processes.
• Lead and/or support head count and workload management.
• Identify and develop operational performance metrics and assist management in reporting on KPIs.
• Participate in value stream mapping and cross-functional projects to create process efficiencies.
• Create a culture of continuous improvement.
• Perform ad hoc projects as needed.
• Provide backup to other managers as necessary.
