Job summary

Sompo in North America is seeking a VP, Underwriting Support Manager to lead a team of underwriting staff across multiple offices. You will establish efficient workflows, drive performance, and partner with underwriting, CAT, claims and centralized support groups to deliver solid results.

You’ll manage monthly premium bookings, audits, and headcount planning, while guiding talent development and process improvements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of managerial experience in underwriting support or similar roles.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter and standard office tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of managers and underwriting associates with hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management.
• Establish workflows to reduce manual processes and gain efficiencies.
• Collaborate with underwriting managers to ensure effective support and continuous improvement.
• Manage processes for internal and external audits.
• Oversee monthly premium bookings and overdue premium processes.
• Lead headcount and workload planning.
• Identify and develop operational performance metrics and report on KPIs.
• Participate in value stream mapping and cross-functional projects.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and provide backup to other managers.
