Orbis is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead a growing engineering organization across the United States. You will manage directors and managers, hire and develop top engineers, and shape a culture that delivers reliable, scalable software for government and allied customers.

You will report to the CTO, own the operating model, and partner with product and security teams to align roadmap delivery with mission requirements. Remote work across time zones is central to this role.

Qualifikationen

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years leading organizations through other managers
• Experience as an engineering leader at a small or early‑stage company
• Demonstrated success as a people leader and talent development
• Proven success scaling an engineering organization during rapid growth
• Exceptional written and verbal communication with executives, boards, and customers
• Proven experience leading a fully remote organization across multiple time zones
• Hands‑on background in cloud‑native delivery (CI/CD/DevSecOps) and production work with Rust, Go, or TypeScript and AWS/GCP/Cloudflare
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
• Travel up to 25% willingness

Aufgaben

• Lead and develop the engineering leadership team of directors and managers
• Own the staffing plan, interview processes, and career ladders to scale the team
• Shape the engineering culture, norms, and feedback loops
• Communicate direction and context to the engineering org and executives
• Own delivery and accountability with product leadership and roadmaps
• Consolidate platforms and rationalize toolchains across Rust, Go, TS and cloud environments
• Define standards for documentation and onboarding to retain knowledge
• Ensure security, compliance, and reliability standards for government customers
• Set remote collaboration hours, cadence, and on-call rotations across time zones
• Partner with CTO, Product, Security, People, and IT on budgets/headcount
• Travel up to 25% to HQ and customer sites
