Job summary

Hornblower Group’s City Ferry operations seek a Mate to support safe vessel operations aboard Training Support Vessels, serving as a navigation officer and assisting with deck maintenance. You will prepare voyage plans, stand watches, and provide voyage progress updates to the Master.

The role reports to the Chief Mate and emphasizes teamwork, regulatory compliance, and proactive seamanship. A strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard license and STCW endorsements.
  • TWIC badge required.
  • CAC eligibility or clearance.
  • U.S. passport required.
  • Ability to obtain SECRET clearance.
  • Must meet physical standards for shipboard service.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to perform deck operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as navigation officer per procedures and regulations.
  • Prepare voyage plans and monitor progress.
  • Maintain navigational charts and electronic systems.
  • Stand navigational and safety watches.
  • Perform deck maintenance, cleaning, and repairs.
  • Participate in drills and onboard training.
  • Assist with deck operations and seamanship duties.
  • Perform other duties to support vessel operations.
