Job summary

Hornblower Group seeks a First Mate to support the Captain in safely mooring, operating, and maintaining our vessels in the United States. The role includes assisting passengers during loading, supporting deck operations, and ensuring high guest experience standards.

Responsibilities include standing bridge watch, navigation assistance, supervising deck crew, and performing routine vessel maintenance while ensuring crew safety and compliance with procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift furniture and other heavy items.
  • Transport Workers identification Credential or TWIC.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate.
  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork.
  • Strong customer service, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, detail oriented and meet deadlines.
  • Handle multiple tasks/projects at one time.
  • Have a working knowledge of computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey information to coworkers and guests.
  • Maintain uniform and grooming in compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

  • Stand bridge watch and assist in safe navigation and maneuvering of the vessel.
  • Take command if the captain is incapacitated.
  • Clean and maintain the vessel.
  • Assign deck crew tasks and provide direction.
  • Supervise routine shipboard maintenance.
  • Solve problems that arise on board.
  • Run onboard drills and safety procedures.
  • Prioritize customer service and guest experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of all common areas on the vessel.
  • Load or unload materials and handle lines to moor the vessel to the pier.
  • Oversee vessel maintenance including mechanical, electrical, and navigation systems.
  • Stand look-out on bow, stern, or bridge wings.
  • Operate ship equipment such as engines, generators, HVAC, and bridge gear.
  • Participate in shipyard periods when required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
