Assists in the instruction and reinforcement of visual and performing arts. Provides arts instructional guidance to elementary, pre-kindergarten to sixth grade (PK-6), middle and/or high school students in the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Program. Assists in the implementation of the VAPA program’s standards across various disciplines such as visual arts, digital arts, music, drama, and dance.

CURRENT VACANCIES

Various opportunities exist for permanent and on-call or long-term substitute assignments. The eligibility list will be used to fill both types of positions based on the immediate and future needs of the District. All positions are part-time, 9.25 months per year, 3 to 6.5 hours per day. Permanent positions are Monday through Friday and include full benefits for the employee only. Both permanent and substitute assignments may be in any part of the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta, or Montrose).

SALARY

Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate. Permanent employees may earn higher rates upon successful completion of the probationary period (130 days of paid service) and may receive merit increases each year up to the maximum amount.

DUTIES
  • Performs a variety of visual and performing arts instruction in accordance with California State Arts Standards and applicable grade level standards. This includes the instruction of arts skills, techniques, and elements of artistic expression.
  • Supervises large groups of students during various arts activities, including visual arts, digital arts, music, drama, and dance.
  • Prepares and moves arts materials and equipment, as needed, to assist in the arts program; teaches and supervises correct use of equipment and materials.
  • Assists with activity arrangements, prepares bulletin boards and other displays of student artwork and performances as it relates to the site and arts activities.
  • Oversees and participates in classroom behavioral expectations.
  • Responds to children's questions and concerns related to arts activities.
  • Administers written or performance-based assessments.
  • Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as maintaining files and records, typing, preparing handouts, and operating various types of audio-visual and office equipment.
  • Assists in class supervision on field trips to museums, performances, and other arts-related venues. Organizes culminating events.
  • Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Meet the requirements of “Every student succeeds” (ESSA) Act by possessing an Associate’s Degree or 48 semester units from an accredited institution or higher learning.
  • Background experience with Visual and Performing Arts.
DESIRABLE
  • Arts related coursework and/or certification in the arts.
  • Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD

130 days of paid service.

POST-OFFER REQUIREMENTS

A candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer, the candidate must complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (district-paid). The onboarding process includes legally mandated training(s) and reference checks. In addition, pursuant to Senate Bill 848 (SB848), the district is required to conduct reference checks that include inquiry into whether the applicant has ever been the subject of a credible complaint, investigation, or disciplinary action related to child abuse, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.
