Job summary

Virginia MOCA is seeking a Visitor Experience Associate to welcome visitors, assist with gallery orientations, and support ARTlab and education programs. The role includes Front-of-House duties, member inquiries, and event assistance, with a focus on accessibility and engaging experiences.

Schedule: 7–20 hours per week, Wednesday–Sunday with occasional evenings. Join a collaborative team in a museum that values diverse audiences and community engagement.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of customer service experience.
• Ability to provide exceptional, individualized customer service to a wide range of audiences.
• Strong organizational skills and capacity to prioritize varied tasks.
• Willingness to work outside standard museum hours for events.

Responsibilities

• Manage Welcome Desk during assigned hours, greet visitors, vendors, contractors, and other guests, and answer/direct phone communications.
• During gallery hours, rotate between checking in and orienting visitors, engaging them in the galleries, and performing security checks.
• Assist with upkeep of front-of-house areas, signage, materials, and organization; ensure spaces are clean and inviting.
• Initiate meaningful conversations with visitors to explain current exhibitions and programs and encourage engagement.
• Assist with membership and studio program inquiries and registrations.
• Coordinate with security to manage building traffic and protect artworks.
