Job summary

AEG Vision in Bridgeport, CT is seeking an Optical Consultant to support optical exams and patient education. You will work closely with the Optometrists to perform preliminary evaluations, assist with frame selection, and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist (dilation, topical meds, diagnostic testing, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity).
• Conduct verbal interviews with patients prior to visits to identify medical issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referrals and follow-up appointments with Ophthalmologists or specialists and complete paperwork.
• Record and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and state policies.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications, treatments, and appointments.
• Perform diagnostic testing using equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.).
• Document medical findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation and CPT coding where needed.
• Ensure schedule utilization via pre/post-visit confirmations and recalls.
