Job summary

Small Door Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Medical Director to lead and mentor a team of doctors across our expanding network.

You will diagnose and treat companion animals, set clinical standards, and ensure exceptional client care in a collaborative, hospitality-driven environment. You will partner with leadership to recruit top veterinary talent, oversee scheduling, and drive growth while maintaining the highest ethical and medical standards.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with an active state license and a DEA license.
• 5+ years of veterinary clinical experience.
• Proven leadership and mentorship of a doctor team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong clinical judgement and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat pets, and advise clients on pet care.
• Directly manage and mentor 1–5 doctors; drive engagement and growth.
• Partner with Regional Medical Director and Talent team to recruit and onboard veterinary talent.
• Coordinate with Ops on doctor scheduling to ensure clinical coverage.
• Uphold Small Door's culture, values, and hospitality in all interactions.
• Act as clinical point of contact for escalated medical questions.
• Ensure service accessibility aligns with member needs and schedules.
• Monitor physician performance metrics and provide regular feedback.
• Collaborate with Practice Manager to foster positive team dynamics.
• Work with Nursing Leadership to promote open communication and continuous learning.
• Oversee regulatory compliance (DEA, OSHA) and medical protocols.
