National Veterinary Associates offers a rewarding externship opportunity for veterinary students to gain hands-on experience in a supportive hospital environment. Students will work closely with veterinarians to develop their clinical skills, manage patient care, and improve their communication with staff and clients. This externship is critical for students in their clinical year, providing essential insight into daily operations within veterinary practice, and includes a stipend for travel and living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has unique features, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Stoughton Veterinary Service typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are available to veterinary students in their clinical year.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details about the stipend program.
