Join a leading global pet care organization through an externship at Shawme Animal Hospital. Gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment, working alongside dedicated veterinary professionals. This opportunity allows veterinary students to enhance their clinical skills and communication while providing exceptional care to animals.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Shawme Animal Hospital is a positive, collaborative environment with exceptional clients and a passionate staff. Our practice features ultrasonography, digital radiology (general and dental), and a comprehensive surgical and dental suite.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Shawme Animal Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
