Job summary

VEG is seeking a Nursing Manager in California to lead the veterinary nursing team in emergency care. You’ll shape culture, empower staff, and ensure exceptional patient care while maintaining medical excellence and team pride.

This role partners with hospital leadership to optimize workflow, staffing, and training, with opportunities for mentorship, in-house leadership programs, a competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT) in-state required; AVMA-accredited program preferred.
5+ years in a clinical veterinary nursing role; 2+ years leadership experience.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Willing to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
Works well in a fast-paced, diverse team environment.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day flow for nursing team and provide tools and support.
Oversee scheduling, payroll, productivity, hiring, onboarding and offboarding.
Address patient care issues and team dynamics with empathy and clarity.
Partner with hospital leadership and shift leads to align on goals and hospital flow.
Use doctor feedback to guide team development and maintain medical excellence.
Lead with VEG values—openness, togetherness, and heroic helping.
Champion a culture of learning with in-house training, mentorship, and development pathways.
Ensure licensure, performance standards, and education programs are upheld across the team.
Drive meaningful 1:1s, check-ins, and student mentorship for long-term growth.
