Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide excellent medical care to Vetco Total Care patients and outstanding customer service to their owners in our veterinary hospital.

The role focuses on assisting veterinarians, maintaining EMRs, preparing patients for procedures, and supporting the front desk. Candidates should have prior veterinary experience and strong communication skills, thriving in a fast-paced, compassionate environment.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor under stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room; obtain weight and vital signs and record in EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, maintain client/patient records.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist during anesthesia and recovery.
• Administer in-hospital treatments including injections and IV fluids; keep patients clean and fed as directed.
• Train new staff under supervision and maintain a clean hospital environment.
• Provide backup front desk support as needed.
