Job summary

Petco is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support the Vetco Total Care team in our hospital setting. You will greet clients, collect patient histories, assist with exams, surgeries, dentistry, and anesthesia, and help manage medications and the EMR system.

You will also educate clients, schedule visits, and maintain a clean, safe hospital environment. Preferred candidates have at least 1 year of veterinary practice experience, excellent communication, compassion, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year veterinary practice experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate, professional demeanor under stress.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
• Process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications under direction.
• Schedule appointments and maintain client/patient records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia under supervision.
• Provide in-hospital treatments and intravenous fluids as directed.
• Train new staff and disseminate knowledge as required.
• Maintain a neat and clean hospital environment.
