Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to provide excellent medical care in our Vetco Total Care hospital and deliver outstanding customer service to pet owners.

You will greet clients, assist doctors with routine and emergency procedures, collect patient histories, manage records, and help with anesthesia and in-hospital treatments. The role requires a team player with good communication, compassion, and a year of veterinary experience preferred; work in a busy hospital

Qualifications

• Preferred at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or equivalent animal care experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor in stressful situations.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to learn.
• Telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record the EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process lab samples, handle and dispense medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist in anesthesia, monitor vital signs during anesthesia and recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, administer medications, and maintain patient comfort and safety.
• Train new staff and share knowledge; keep environment neat and clean.
