Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for our Vetco Total Care hospital team. You will provide high-quality medical care to patients and outstanding customer care to pet owners, ensuring a welcoming, professional environment.

The role involves assisting doctors with exams and procedures, maintaining medical records, and supporting daily hospital operations. Previous veterinary experience is preferred, and teamwork is essential for delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must have a team player mindset and willingness to learn new techniques and treatments.
• Veterinary practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments, escort to exam room, record weight and vital signs, and document in EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Handle and dispense medications as directed and help maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, and update records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist with anesthesia and monitoring during surgery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments including injections and IV fluids, maintain patient care as directed.
• Assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean and perform maintenance tasks.
