Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care patients and their owners. You will provide compassionate medical care and exceptional client service in a busy hospital setting, while upholding Petco's standards and values.

Responsibilities include assisting veterinarians, managing patient records, and helping with surgeries and anesthesia under supervision. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and ongoing learning in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Preferred at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or related animal care experience.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and approaches.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients entering the clinic, assist with vital signs and EMR documentation.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry and euthanasia under supervision.
• Handle medications, collect and process laboratory samples as directed.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients and maintain/update patient records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor them under anesthesia and recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments and ensure patients are fed, hydrated and cared for.
• Assist in training new staff and keep the hospital environment clean.
• Provide backup front desk and phone support as needed.
