Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide high-quality medical care to our Vetco Total Care patients and exceptional customer service to their owners. You will be a key member of the hospital team, ensuring accurate records and compassionate care across all duties.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor under stress.

• Telephone and computer skills.
• Experience in animal care or veterinary settings is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments, record vitals and update EMRs.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgeries, dentistry and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process labs, handle medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, maintain records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia during surgery and recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, IV fluids, and general patient care; ensure clean, safe environment.
• Assist in training new staff and maintain overall hospital cleanliness.
