Job summary

Atrium Animal Hospital in Charlotte, NC is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join our small animal hospital team. You will assist veterinarians during exams and procedures, support surgeries and dental care, and perform in-house lab work to support high‑quality patient care.

We offer a four‑day workweek with rotating weekend on‑call shifts, no night shifts, and a robust benefits package including medical/dental/vision, 401(k) matching, tuition support, and pet care perks.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary technician experience.
• Solid technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and laboratory procedures.
• Experience with anesthesia monitoring.
• Ability to triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, and procedures.
• Support surgical and dental procedures, including preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care.
• Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBC/chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, and more.
• Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection.
• Monitor patients under anesthesia.
• Accurately triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories.
• Educate and communicate with clients about patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventative care.
• Provide patient monitoring and supportive care, including TPRs, pain scoring, wound care, and more.
• Maintain clean and well‑stocked treatment and exam areas.
• Follow established infection control protocols.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and fellow team members to provide compassionate, efficient patient care.
