Job summary

University of the Incarnate Word seeks a Military and Veterans Services Specialist & School Certifying Official to serve as the primary contact for military-affiliated students on campus. You will administer VA, DoD Tuition Assistance, and other educational benefits, while coordinating with campus offices to ensure compliance and student success.

This on-campus role reports to the Assistant Director of the Military & Veterans Center and requires a Bachelor’s Degree with at least one year of

Qualifications

• Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service and diffuse difficult situations.
• Strong mathematical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively conduct basic presentations.
• Ability to communicate and work well with current/potential students and UIW faculty/staff.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook or similar.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Processes requests for certification under VA, DoD, and Tuition Assistance educational benefits and posts resources to student accounts in accordance with applicable regulations and institutional procedures.
• Maintains accurate records while analyzing high volumes of data from Banner and Enrollment Manager.
• Serves as a liaison between military-affiliated students and university services (Financial Aid, Advising, Business Office, Career Services, Counseling, etc.).
• Advises students on processes related to operations of the Military and Veteran Center, including benefit usage and tuition assistance.
• Researches, analyzes, and processes weekly and end-of-term reports accurately and timely.
• Assists with internal and external compliance surveys from Texas Veterans Commission and VA.
• Establishes cooperative relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community agencies.
• Supervises VA student workers, assists with counter coverage, phones, registration, and graduation duties.
• Assists in data collection and assessment for survey recognition and award applications.
• Plans and executes outreach events related to veterans’ education benefits and on-campus support.
• Develops, implements, and manages programs that support veteran students’ academic, personal, and professional development.
• Coordinates events, workshops, and seminars addressing needs of veterans and military families.
