Job summary

San Diego State University seeks a Primary School Certifying Official to certify federal and state veterans’ education benefits and Tuition Assistance. You will advise military-connected students on benefits, financial aid, and degree progress while ensuring compliance with VA, DoD, CSU, and state regulations.

You will collaborate with campus departments and external agencies to coordinate certifications, maintain records, and support program approvals. The role is on-site at SDSU in San Diego.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of CSU and SDSU policies, procedures, regulations, and catalog requirements.
• Knowledge of state and federal VA education benefits and VA data systems.
• Experience managing VA education benefits and ensuring compliance in audits and surveys.
• Ability to assess policies, interpret regulations, and recommend improvements.
• Experience working with veterans or student veteran organizations is preferred.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; communicates with diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; able to handle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Certify federal and state veterans’ education benefits and Tuition Assistance in compliance with VA/DoD/CSU/state regulations.
• Advise military-connected students on education benefits, financial aid, degree progress, and campus resources.
• Coordinate benefit certifications with campus departments and external agencies; maintain accurate records.
• Prepare reports, analyze data, and support compliance reviews and program approvals.
• Support MVP initiatives through outreach, VA Work-Study coordination, and committee participation.
