Job summary

Jericho Project is seeking a Housing Specialist in Manhattan to assist very low-income veterans in identifying and obtaining safe, affordable housing opportunities. You will build housing leads through community agencies, landlords, and brokers willing to accept program participants with limited income.

You will collaborate with the VA, NYCHA, HPD, and HRA to ensure timely housing placement and ongoing support. The role requires field work and strong advocacy for veterans’ housing needs.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interpersonal flexibility, teamwork, and customer service aptitude.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of housing subsidies, rules, regulations, and affordable housing in NYC is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing intakes and assessments for veterans using a Housing-First approach.
• Develop relationships with landlords, brokers, and real estate agencies.
• Provide housing counseling and placement assistance, including accompanying to viewings and inspections.
• Assist with housing applications and securing necessary documentation.
• Advocate with landlords and brokers to overcome barriers to housing.
• Identify resources for security deposits, broker fees, moving expenses, and initial financial assistance.
• Collaborate with Jericho Project team and serve as housing resources expert.
• Serve as point of contact for landlords to resolve occupancy issues.
