Job summary

Jericho Project is seeking an Outreach Specialist to engage low-income veterans facing housing crises in Manhattan. You will coordinate intakes, perform intake assessments, and serve as the front line for SSVF and related veteran programs.

The role reports to the Director of Veteran's Outreach, is non-exempt, and offers an annual compensation of $43,000 to $45,000. This is a full-time on-site position with responsibilities across shelters, VA centers, and community partners.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; higher education preferred but extensive experience may substitute.
• Experience in homelessness, substance abuse, mental health and/or trauma settings preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
• Excellent communications and recruitment abilities.
• Familiar with recruitment and sales strategies.
• Relentless dedication, high energy and flexibility.
• Experience working with veterans/military preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an initial contact for SSVF and other Veteran programs.
• Conduct outreach at shelters, VA centers, and community orgs to identify veterans/families at risk.
• Participate in coordinated outreach and other community initiatives.
• Submit accurate outreach logs and enter data in NYC HOME and Jericho AWARDS weekly.
• Provide encouragement and daily recruitment of veterans in need of services.
• Provide feedback to SSVF staff on outreach progress and challenges.
• Host informational sessions about benefits and eligibility of Jericho's veteran programs.
• Screen and interview veterans for eligibility; refer ineligible cases to community services.
• Complete intake assessments in the field with veterans.
• Develop community linkages to facilitate referrals.
• Maintain relationships with external partners and program staff.
• Escort veterans to appointments as needed.
• Participate in staff trainings and events.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director, Veterans Outreach and SSVF PD.
