Job summary

The Humboldt County Veterans Service Office seeks a Veterans Service Representative to aid veterans, dependents and survivors in obtaining federal, state and local benefits. You will advocate, interview, assess needs, and help prepare and submit benefit claims.

Responsibilities include counseling, referring clients to agencies, explaining laws, and coordinating with veterans organizations to support claims and entitlement determinations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with veterans and families to assess needs and eligible benefits.
• Assist in preparing and submitting claims for compensation, pensions, education, and health care.
• Advise and advocate for veterans before agencies and adjudicatory boards.
• Explain applicable laws and regulations and gather supporting evidence.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and coordinate with service organizations.
