Job summary

Mecklenburg County Government seeks a dedicated veteran services advocate to help veterans and dependents obtain disability benefits and related support. You will develop, submit, and monitor claims, while connecting clients to healthcare, education, housing and financial assistance across county resources.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterans services or related human services.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain VA certification within one year of employment.
• Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license and county driving privileges.

Responsibilities

• Interview veterans and dependents to determine rights and benefits.
• Develop and process disability, pension and other VA benefits.
• Review medical and personnel records to support claims.
• Appear before VA Rating Boards and present/advise on claims.
• Collaborate with private physicians to document VA disability claims.
• Present veterans programs and inform on legislative actions.
• Coordinate outreach and work across Mecklenburg County locations.
• Maintain thorough documentation and reports.
