Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care services and deliver excellent patient care while ensuring superb client service. You will work with veterinarians and technicians to maintain EMR, assist in procedures, and uphold a compassionate, team‑oriented culture.

Candidate should have strong communication, be reliable, and comfortable juggling multiple duties in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and maintain a professional attitude in stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.
• Preferred to have at least 1-year experience in veterinary practice.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort to exam room, record weight and vital signs in EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, collect samples, handle medications, and maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and update records.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in anesthesia under supervision.
• Monitor patients under anesthesia and assist with recovery and discharge to overnight care.
• Under supervision, assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean and follow maintenance schedule.
• Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
