Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide compassionate, high-quality care in our Vetco Total Care hospital setting. You will support veterinarians with exams, surgeries, dentistry, and anesthesia, while delivering outstanding client service and maintaining EMRs.

Ideal candidates have strong communication skills, teamwork mindset, and a willingness to learn. The role includes duties from greeting clients to assisting with procedures and ensuring a clean, efficient hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor, especially in stressful situations.
• Telephone and computer skills are required.
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.
• Preferred to have at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or animal care.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments, escort to exam room, record vitals and EMR.
• Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
• Perform patient restraint, collect samples, dispense medications per veterinarian directions and maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, and maintain records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist during anesthesia and recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, administer medications, manage IV fluids, and care for hospitalized patients.
• Assist in training of new staff and maintain a clean hospital environment.
• Perform additional duties and provide backup front desk support as needed.
