Job summary

U.S. Coast Guard Community Services Command in Yorktown, VA seeks a Cook-05 INT to prepare and cook a variety of meals, operate kitchen equipment, and maintain food safety standards. The role may include occasional bar duties and other tasks as assigned, with an intermittent schedule (0–19 hours/week).

Salary is $21.03 per hour. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications, including food preparation experience and ability to lift up to 40 pounds. A Food Handler's Certificate may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in methods and procedures relating to food preparation, presentation, reading and following recipes.
• Experience following oral and written instructions and performing simple arithmetic.
• Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.
• Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items such as hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, eggs, quick meals, cold sandwiches and salads.
• Operates a variety of kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas; follows safety procedures to avoid injuries.
• May carry out bar related duties such as filling ice bins, replacing empty beer kegs, stocking beer coolers.
• Other duties as assigned.
