Job summary

Coast Guard Exchange in Buzzards Bay, MA is seeking a Cook-08 INT to prepare and cook a variety of menu items, following standardized recipes and high food-safety standards. The role requires coordinating multiple cooking steps to ensure timely service across meals.

Responsibilities include maintaining inventories, sanitation, and operating a range of kitchen equipment. The position offers an intermittent schedule (0–19 hours/week) with a pay rate of $23.59/hour.

Qualifications

• Experience with a full range of food preparation principles, including developing new or recurrent recipes; cooking in large quantities; evaluating final food products; initiating corrective action.
• Experience in operation, breakdown, and cleaning of food service equipment for large quantity production; ability to organize and coordinate work of lower graded employees.
• Must be physically able to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and stand/walk for long periods.
• Must obtain a Food Handler's Certificate or complete food handler's training.
• Two or more years of experience as a cook in food preparation, presentation, and following recipes in grill/snack bar/restaurant/club environment (preferred).
• Experience organizing and coordinating the work of lower graded employees (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Independently prepares all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for menus.
• Prepares, cooks, seasons, and portions food for all meals following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty.
• Plans, regulates, and schedules cooking procedures so numerous completed food products are ready at the same time.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas; operates kitchen equipment; follows safety procedures.
• Remains compliant with sanitation procedures and proper food storage temperatures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
